Here are some pictures of "Roderick" purchased for just $1300 then seriously upgraded with new and refurbished parts taken from several other vehicles. Recently, the bonnet decided to improve its status in life by travelling vertically - at 118 kph on the freeway, so a bonnet swap, new windscreen and complete body repaint is being done - more pictures later.

Enhancements to date include

Remachined brake calipers all round
BFG all terrain tyres
OME shocks all round
Replacement gearbox & drive shafts
Replaced bushes throughout.
Manual steering box changed for power box
Reconditioned cylinder heads
Replacement turret with sunroof, also relaced headliner
Leather bucket seats from a  Honda Prelude
Rear seat from later model
Rear head restraints
Grey marine carpet & red leather trimmed interior
Lockable steel tools compartment
External wheel carrier
New radio, driving lights, inspection lamp, internal 12V sockets, dual batteries, all with relays
Airconditioning taken from later model, with new dryer and fans
New instrument cluster

How much did this lot cost - don't ask!

I've seen the beast before on other forums and would have to be one of the oldest surviving Rangies currently going.

I bought a 76 Rangie off-ebay for $1K about 12 months ago and so far I'm pretty impressed with it although I have yet to do any major work to the old dunga. Still got my 87 Rangie Hi-Line off-road bush basher with all the good stuff (33' Silverstones, 40mm body and spring,Konui's all round, F&R maxi's and lots of dents!!!! I's looking a bit sad with rust starting to attack some of the usual spots and may be time for a transplant of all the good bits into another cheap Rangie but I'll keep it going til it dies I think.

Hi Trav

Good to catch up with you again.  If I'm not mistaken, Roderick has some of the bits I bought from you a few years ago.

You won't regret your purchase, even if you have to do a heap of work on it. We came back last night from a 500k round trip to the farm and as usual, the vehicle handled all the bad gravel roads, wash-outs and even hauled a trailer load of gravel out of a creek, before sitting on 118 on the Expressway back to Sydney.

Most of my serious upgrades have been done but I'm tempted by the replacement 3.9 engine Graeme might have available soon. This would overcome the speed falling off on long uphill climbs - when many of the buggers you have just overtaken pull past -a bit embarrassing

Keep watch on the "reburbished" pages of this website - there are some real bargains around

Alan

Haven't been on here for a loong time but have been busy trying to get my old dunga going again and work as well have been taking up most of my time.

Got most things sorted, just gotta get the exhaust sorted as the 2 inch lifted springs allow the rear exhaust hit the a-fram assembly. The old saggy originals must of been bad let me tell you. There's also a leak in one of the extractors which look a bit old and mosty of the flange bolts have seized solid (time to get the angle grinder out and replace them with new stainless jobs).

Getting there, just a bit slower than I like but it's not too far off now.
